A cyclist was injured after a teenager pushed him into the canal while his friend apparently filmed it on a mobile phone.

Police are investigating the assault which occurred on Gade Bank, Croxley Green at around 5.30pm on Friday (July 31).

The victim, a 31-year-old man, was riding his bike along the Grand Union Canal path towards Kings Langley when the youth pushed him off his bike into the water.

The cyclist was able to pull himself out but was unable to fish out his bike and laptop.

His leg and wrist were injured in the attack and other items were damaged.

In a post on the Kings Langley Matters Facebook page, a commenter believed to be the cyclist’s wife said her husband was ‘shaken and bruised’ after the attack.

The couple believe ‘the purpose of the assault was a video’ as there was another teenager filming the incident.

The suspect is described as a white teenage boy, aged between 14 and 16 years old, around 4ft 9in with short light brown hair.

Anyone who witnessed what happened or who has information which could assist the investigation should call Herts Police on 101, quoting crime reference number C2/15/1765.

In November last year, a female cyclist was pushed into the canal next to B&Q in Hemel Hempstead in a similar unprovoked attack.
