Taxi driver caught out after joint sting operation by police and council bosses

A cabbie has pleaded guilty to unlawfully plying for hire as a taxi driver without the correct licences after he picked up undercover council and police officers without a prior booking during an enforcement operation in Tring town centre

Anwar Ahmed appeared at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday, following the enforcement exercise last year.

At the time of the sting operation Ahmed held a licence to work as a private hire driver within Aylesbury.

He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 in costs plus a £20 victim surcharge.

Ahmed is the third driver to have been convicted in recent months as a result of joint operations carried out by the council and Hertfordshire Police, aimed at rooting out
unlicensed and uninsured taxi and private hire
drivers.
