Spring has not yet sprung, but fayre brings fun to Frogmore

A spring fayre at Frogmore Paper Mill drew in crowds of around 300 people despite fears the wintry weather would dampen spirits.

More than 40 craft stalls and papermaking activities for children took place indoors at the historic mill on Sunday, but the bitter cold did affect the planned boat trips down the river Gade.

The Paper Trail’s Margaret Curle said: “Unfortunately the boat trips did not prove popular, it was much too cold. However, the hot food and drinks we served on the day did go down very well.

“We were very pleased with the amount of people that came through the doors despite the weather conditions, and it was great to get the public in as it shows we have a lot of support from the local community. It was also good because it brings people from slightly further afield, who may not have known about us before.”

The money raised has not yet been counted, but staff at the mill are pleased their latest fundraising effort will add to their ongoing maintenance and upkeep pot. Margaret said: “Any money we get just goes into making the centre better for our visitors.”

Despite the lack of takers for boat trips on the day, Margaret said there will be trips available on Wednesdays, April 3 and 10 during the Easter holidays, when they hope the weather will have improved.

River tours do not need to be booked in advance, just turn up on either Wednesday during the mill’s usual opening hours of 10.30am to 4.30pm.
