Spice Girls fans have the chance to immerse themselves in nostalgia with a special exhibition being held to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the band’s first hit single, Wannabe.
Spiceworld: The Exhibition celebrates the story of how Sporty, Baby, Scary, Ginger and Posh became the most successful girl group of all time and enjoyed phenomenal global success.
The exhibition will open in Ginger Spice, Geri Halliwell’s home town of Watford, at the Watford Colosseum, on Thursday July 7 next year and will run through until Sunday August 7.
The exhibition has been given the seal of approval by Scary Spice, Mel B, who said: “I really hope that everyone will like this exhibition. It is truly an honour to have such an extensive collection of our past brought out for everyone to enjoy.”
The basis for the exhibition is the Guinness World Record breaking collection of artist and curator Liz West, who is the foremost collector of Spice Girls memorabilia and merchandise in the world.
She said: “I am thrilled that Watford Colosseum is hosting my iconic Spice Girls collection in 2016, 20 years after the release of the Spice Girls first single, Wannabe. It seems very fitting for the collection to be in Geri’s home town in this important annviersary year. I hope visitors enjoy getting up close to these amazing handmade couture outfits worn by the girls in their 90s heyday!”
The exhibition will be open during Watford Colosseum’s standard opening hours, from noon to 4pm Monday to Saturday, and for two hours prior to performances.
Watford Colosseum venue director David Mansfield said: “I’m often asked what we want, what we really, really want at the Colosseum, and this exhibition seemed like a really, really natural fit.
“We have a very diverse programme of events catering to everyone from Dancing Queens to Tribal Spacemen ... and all that’s inbetween. So the opportunity to Spice Up Your Life with this free exhibition was simply too good to miss, especially as Watford is Ginger Spice’s home town.”
The exhibition will be free to attend and tickets do not need to be purchased in advance. For futher information go to www.watfordcolosseum.co.uk/online/spiceworld
