Shopper numbers up 3.3% at Riverside during festive period

The number of shoppers at the Riverside Shopping Centre rose by 3.3 per cent in November and December compared to the previous year.

In the final two months of 2015, 57,257 people parked their cars in the multi-storey car park, compared to 55,454 in 2015 – an increase of 1,803.

Centre manager David Robinson said “Both Christmas Eve and Boxing Day trading was strong, with most retailers also reporting strong sales into the week after Christmas.

“We were delighted to see our new retailers Topshop/Topman, Clarks and Toys-R-Us all benefitting from high footfall but also pleased to see established retailers such as Debenhams, Pandora, Next, TK Maxx and H&M all reporting strong trading over the Christmas period.

“With our strong retail offer, the newly modernised town centre and planned works to the Water Gardens we are expecting 2016 to be a busy year at Riverside.”
