Fraser Welling, 47, was shopping in Tesco’s Jarman Park store in Hemel Hempstead when he heard his name announced over the tannoy.

Mr Welling said: “It was absolutely magic. I sensed something was going on, but I thought we were there for market research about family shopping habits.”

Ella’s announcement, which which was shared with hundreds of shoppers, said: “Thank you for always being there for me and actually becoming a part of our family, and acting the way a real dad would.”

Fraser, who lives with wife Lisa, 44, children Lily, 13, and Austin, four, has been in Ella’s life since she was a year old.

The pair were at the deli counter buying a pork pie when a member of staff on the customer service desk played the recording.

Ella, who has nicknamed Fraser ‘Fraddy’, talked about playing golf with her step-dad, and the funny meal concoctions he throws together, before ending with ‘I love you’.

Dad-of-three Fraser said: “I’m often the joker at home and the one who catches people out, so the family have really got their own back now!

“It was really nice, but I’ve only watched the video once because I’m self-conscious.”
