Shake off the stigma of homelessness at awareness event

Homeless charity DENS’ annual awareness week kicks off on Saturday, with the chance to meet and speak to someone who knows first-hand what it’s like to be on the streets.

Former DENS service user Andy will tell his own story from the charity’s stall at the Riverside Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead from 10am to 4pm.

A typical food parcel from the DENS Dacorum Foodbank will also be on show, along with a fundraising tombola, raffle and cake sale.

A spokesman for the charity said: “We have invited a few of the people that DENS has helped to come andchat to the public about what it was like to be homeless in Dacorum and how DENS has helped them.

“We will explain the full range of integrated services which support those in crisis to build a better future.

“You can also see how your donations of food at the supermarkets, schools and churches help those who need it most.”

This autumn, the organisation is also inviting its supporters to ‘Dine for DENS’ by hosting a dinner party for friends and family with a £10 suggested ‘charge’ to raise funds.
