Severed head investigation: Autopsy reveals human remains had teeth

Officers hope dental records could provide a breakthrough in discovering who the body part belongs to.

Specialists have been examining the head, which is believed to belong to a woman, with flesh still attached.

The head was found at a quarry in Mepal, near Ely, Cambridgeshire on Monday, but no other body parts have yet been found.

It is believed the skip originated from 40 miles away in Bedfordshire and crime scene investigators have remained at the Mepal quarry and construction site it Sharnbrook since the discovery.

A post-mortem examination on the head came back inconclusive but detectives revealed the victim probably died before 2015.

“We are still keeping an open mind as to what happened. The head does have teeth which will form part of the investigation,” a police spokesman said.

On Wednesday, police ruled out any connection of the find to the murder of missing Milton Keynes mum Natalie Hemming.
