Lester Davis, 65, of Park Road in Boxmoor now wishes to track down the modern-day Good Samaritans who pulled over to help the stricken couple when wife Yvonne suffered sudden heart attack-like symptoms.

The married pair, who have one son together, had been on their regular stroll from their Boxmoor home through the town centre and up into Grovehill when illness struck.

Lester said: “She collapsed in my arms. She became very unwell – out of breath and having chest pains.

“I didn’t have my mobile phone on me, so I frantically flagged down as many passing cars as I possibly could.

“I was in no state to call an ambulance, I was so worried about my wife – but two men stopped to help.”

Lester explained the first man to stop – a white van driver aged in his late 20s – was also without a mobile but drove home to get help and returned to the scene.

In the meantime, another man driving a small open-backed truck also pulled over and helped by talking to unwell Yvonne.

Lester said: “They were both talking to her and keeping her going, stopping her from going into a sleepy state.

“I really want to extend my gratitude to them.

“If they see this, I could thank them and highlight the fact that there are still kind-hearted people out there.”

Yvonne, 58, was treated for heart attack symptoms at Watford General Hospital but made a full recovery after the incident, which happened at the end of August.

She is now well enough to return to her job as a headteacher in a Hatfield school.

The couple, who have lived in Hemel Hempstead since moving from the Midlands in 2000, say they were told the names of the roadside responders who helped them, but had forgotten them amidst the panic.

Lester says he wishes to get in touch with them so that he may make a donation to their favourite charities.

He also plans to make a payment to the East of England Ambulance Service Trust whom he says were extremely helpful during the distressing episode.
