Madison Coates, 25, opened Berkhamsted’s Madison Beauty in September 2013, but in July last year she spent several weeks in hospital and many months at home recuperating after being hit by serious illness.

It meant she had to spend several months away from her fledgling business, which she managed to keep going with the help of part-time beautician Sam Glover and the loyalty of her clients.

Now her customer nominations means she’s made it to the finals of Beautician of the Year in The English Hair and Beauty Awards.

Madison, of Leverstock Green in Hemel Hempstead, said: “I was really lucky that they stood by me.

“This award means so much to me and knowing the nomination is based purely on votes from my clients makes it just that little bit more special.

“These amazing clients who stuck with me through a serious medical setback last year never seem to be able to do enough to help me progress and develop as a person and a professional.

“They’re the reason I am where I am today and for that I am forever grateful for their incredible loyalty and kind support.”

The award winners will be announced on Sunday at the Mercure Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester.

Madison said:”I’ll have everything crossed hoping to hear my name called out on the night.

“Thank you so much to all those who have supported me and got me this far.”
