Rush Judo team are victorious at county-wide sports day

Teams of adults with learning difficulties from all over Hertfordshire came together at the Sportspace athletics track in Hemel Hempstead to take part in a multi-sports competition.

The morning events on Saturday, July 25 gave the nine teams a chance to compete in a range of sports activities including long jump, boccia (similar to bowls), tennis and javelin.

In the afternoon there was a medal ceremony with Dacorum Mayor Gbola Adeleke along with the chairman of East Herts Council Patricia Moore.

Overall victory on the day went to the Dacorum-based Rush Judo team who were worthy winners of the games trophy.

The event was organised by the Sportspace sports development team in partnership with Dacorum Mencap and Herts Sports Partnership.

Elaine Precious from Dacorum Mencap said “Dacorum Mencap is proud of the close working relationship we have with Sportspace. This has culminated this year in a county-wide event, which was a fantastic day for us all with over 150 adults with learning disabilities taking part. They all love the sporting activities and the competitive element of the event.”

The team sports were organised by Sportspace and Apex 360 with support from the Shire London Golf team, Herts and England Netball and Watford FC community trust team.

The day wouldn’t have been possible without the help of volunteers and carers plus funding from Hertfordshire Community Foundation, The Graham Rowlandson Foundation and Hertfordshire Lifestyle & Legacy Partnership.
