She busted her online fundraising target of £100 within a day and now the Berkhamsted youngster has raised almost £550 for the cause.

Mum Sadie Clarke, who has spent hours washing, drying and plaiting Bethany’s hair, said: “She wants to go quite short to a bob.

“I was a little bit anxious at first but it’s just hair, her hair will grow. I’m just really proud of her.”

Bethany, who goes to Westfield Primary School, is planning to wash cars to raise more money before having her haircut on February 27.

Ash Hairdressing in High Street has agreed to do the deed for free.

Mum of two Sadie, of Sheldon Way, Berkhamsted said: “She is really excited. She has been telling everybody. She keeps standing in front of the mirror and putting her hair short and saying she is going to puff it up with her hands.”
