The £1,000 was collected at a screening of Everest in memory of Ian Bell from Hemel Hempstead, who died after a fall in August this year.

The money will be given to the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team in Fort William, Scotland, as they were the ones who found the West Herts College lecturer.

His wife Julia thanked all those who donated, saying: “The generosity from the Rex audience and James Hannaway was very heart warming and we are touched.

“We miss Ian and we always will. He loved the mountains, he loved the Rex and together with our two sons Oscar and Louie, we have great memories of watching films together at the Rex.”

Following Ian’s funeral,
a further £553.00 was
collected for LMRT.
