Popular Tring walking spot could be fenced off

A popular area for people walking their dogs is set to be fenced off by the landowner, who claims that there is a persistent problem with flytipping and dog mess.

The land at New Mill, Tring, covers 36 acres and is on the north-east of Tring, bordered by the B486 and B488.

If the application is successful, the new fencing will be 2.5 metres high and will provided a “permanent and robust security solution”.

The planning application says: “The requirement for the installation of fencing along this boundary is considered a necessary security measure by the landowner.

“The current boundary, which comprises a mix of trees and hedgerow which vary in height, is not secure in several locations. In light of this, previous fencing of a height lower than 2m has been installed by the landowner in an attempt to control access to the site, and dog-fouling and fly-tipping on the site.

“In all instances this has been damaged and/or removed by other parties.”

Some 186 people living in the vicinity have received letters asking for their thoughts, as have local authorities including Tring Town Council.

A number of residents have already signalled their intention to object to the planning application.

Writing on the Facebook page Everything Tring, Sue Pike wrote: “Just found it on planning. A 2.5 mtre high fence in green. So looks like we have lost it to walk dogs on. It was bound to happen but I think the fact that people have been abusing it has not helped in the short term.

“No doubt there will be an application to fill it with houses before too long.”
