Police warn drivers to watch out for thieves over the festive period

A spate of vehicle crime in the lead up to Christmas has prompted a warning from local police officers.

In an email sent out on the Online Watch Link service, PCSO Julian Randall-Stratton – whose beat covers part of Berkhamsted – said: “Offenders are taking advantage of people leaving valuables in their cars when they go shopping.

“Also targeted are those leaving vehicles parked overnight when they go out to Christmas parties and nights out.

“Most recently we have had four reports of vehicles being broken into on White Hill, which is the road between the train tracks and the castle in Berkhamsted.

Two SatNavs were taken during these incidents, and a window was also smashed on a car parked by Berkhamsted School.

“If you must leave valuables in your vehicle then please put them in your boot space out of sight.

“Also, a good tip is to leave your glove box open showing that there is nothing to take.”

PCSO Randall-Stratton says if you have been the victim of such an offence, or have any information, then call 101 or email [email protected]
