Police called to ‘terrorist incident’ at adventure playground

Police were called to Adeyfield Adventure Playground in Hemel Hempstead just before 8pm yesterday evening, following reports of six hooded youths ‘causing alarm and distress’.

It is not thought the teenagers were carrying any weapons at the time of the incident.

They were heard to shout: ‘This is for Syria!”, mirroring what accused Muhaydin Mire was heard to say during a knife attack at London’s Leytonstone tube station at the weekend.

A spokesman for Herts Police said: “We have identified the youths involved and are giving them harsh words of advice and warning around their actions.

“People should be mindful of what they are saying in public in the current climate because they could cause unwarranted alarm and distress.”

Police confirmed that eight staff members and 15 young people were in the Turners Hill playground at the time of the incident, but no one was harmed.
