Police appeal: Did you see the dog commit fatal attack?

Did you see a dog that was dangerously out of control along the Grand Union Canal last month?

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the animal attack a swan in Two Waters Road, Hemel Hempstead, between 5-6pm on Friday, August 21.

As reported in last week’s Gazette, the swan was rescued and cared for by The Swan Sanctuary but died three days later.

PC Amanda Matthews, from Hertfordshire Police’s rural operational support team, said: “Despite the best efforts of volunteers at the sanctuary, the swan sadly passed away from its injuries.

“I am now keen to trace the owner of the dog involved in the attack and am appealing for any witnesses to come forward. If you have any information about the incident, please contact me.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Matthews via the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference D1/15/5598
