The perfect pitch could win a grant in Dacorum's Den

Dacorum's Den, the business grant scheme based on the popular TV show Dragons' Den, is back for 2017.

Now in its sixth year, the scheme gives budding local entrepreneurs the chance to apply for up to £1,000 to develop their business ideas.

Over the last five years Dacorum’s Den has awarded £50,000 to Dacorum businesses and created 33 jobs in the borough.

Last year’s grant winners included Spirit of the Old Town, which offers historical costumed tours around Hemel Hempstead, and Sherry Hostler Cake Artistry, a new cake business in Tring.

People looking to start a business and Dacorum-based businesses with fewer than 20 employees and an annual turnover of less than £1 million are eligible to apply this year.

Organised by Dacorum Borough Council and supported by local sponsors, the scheme opens on March 31 with a 10am workshop at The Forum, in Hemel Hempstead.

It’s a chance to hear about past success stories, meet the judges and learn how to make the perfect pitch.

Borough councillor Graham Sutton said: “Dacorum’s Den can open the door if you’re starting a new business, developing a new product or service, investing in new equipment or expanding into a new market. Deliver the perfect pitch, and the judges can award you up to £1,000 to help you on your way.”

All businesses applying will receive business support from the council’s Enterprise and Investment Team.

The deadline for applications is May 19. For more information, visit www.dacorum.gov.uk/dacorumsden
