One person seriously injured in collision near Hemel Hempstead

Police were called at around 1.30pm yesterday (Wednesday) following a single vehicle collision between junction 7 for St Albans and junction 8 for Hemel Hempstead, of the M1 northbound.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Police said: "It was reported that a van had collided with the central reservation.

"Officers attended, alongside colleagues from the fire and ambulance services.

"One person sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

"The motorway was closed in both directions to allow the air ambulance to land, and for vehicle recovery.

"All closures were lifted at around 4pm."
