Man taken to hospital after 'police incident' closes A414 between Hemel Hempstead and St Albans

Police were called at 5.40am this morning (Tuesday) to report the concern for welfare of a man on the A414 North Orbital Road between the Park Street roundabout and the M1.

Officers and the East of England Ambulance Service attended.

A Hertfordshire Police spokesperson said: "The man was located and taken to hospital for treatment."

The road has been shut in both directions between St Albans and Hemel Hempstead while officers carried out their enquiries.

The spokesperson added: "We thank the public for their understanding in this matter as we realise it caused traffic congestion."

At 10am, Highways England (@HighwaysEAST) tweeted: "#A414 - The eastbound between the M1 and Park Street Roundabout has re-opened. The Westbound carriageway at this location remains closed. #HemelHempstead #StAlbans"
