Yarn bombers in Hemel Hempstead have created a knitted display for Remembrance Day and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Yarn Bomb Hemel Hempstead was first established in 2018 when a group of residents got together to show support for the Poppy Appeal.

This will be the third year that the group have created a knitted display, and this year a new installation for the Jellicoe Water Gardens is being created, and will go out on Sunday, October 18.

The plan is for the displays and postbox toppers to be in place around the town by Saturday, October 24.

Christine Allsopp, who started the group two years ago, said: " We will be displaying red and purple poppies to remember the men and women who have served during our wars and the many animals who also took part.

"All the bridges will be decorated and the trees near the children’s park, I wonder how many other parts of the Jellicoe Garden will be decorated.

"Attached to the displays will be labels with a link/QR code to our GoFund page which we use for collecting any donations.

"This year we are also raising money for a local animal charity as well as the local Poppy Appeal."

The group have also been creating postbox toppers again for the town and Hemel Rocks will also be creating rocks to put out at the base of the decorated trees near the children’s park.

The Royal British Legion supports members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families.

They have been supporting serving and ex-serving personnel and their families all year round, since 1921.

Christine added: "We are also adding photos of people to the displays and would like the Hemel community to also add photos if they want to.

"For example, my Uncle for a para so I will be adding a photo of him to the postbox topper of Para's.

"We also have a lady Emma who's nan was a Land Girl and she is adding a photo of her to the Land Girl topper.

"We would like people to join in and add photos, all you need to do is print and laminate the photo and then add it to the topper."
