Hemel Hempstead teenager is walking 100 miles for the NHS

A teenager from Hemel Hempstead is walking a 100 miles to raise money for the NHS, after being inspired by Captain Tom Moore's fundraising.

Alana Davies, from Bennetts End, has been walking a minimum of five miles a day and has been doing it for 13 days, and is now hoping to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together.

Alana said: "It is going good but my legs are starting to ache a bit.

"I feel like the doctors and nurses are working really hard at the minute and it would be good if they get more support.

"We do the clapping every Thursday to show our appreciation for the NHS.

"I'm hoping to complete it by the end of the month, so I have a few more days to do the last 18 miles."

The 14-year-old has been combining some of her walks with litter picks.

Her mum, Emily, said: "She has nearly finished it, she has been doing it for 13 days and has done 78 miles.

"She is doing it on her daily walk, I have been with her on the walks and so has her dad, and she has been picking up litter on some of her walks, so she is cleaning the streets and raising money for the NHS!

"I think with everything that is going on she wanted to do something to help. She is missing her routine and seeing her friends and one of her friends has been affected by it so she wanted to do something to help.

"She is very giving and I think this was her way of doing something to help those on the frontline, she was inspired by Captain Tom Moore.

"She has done at least five miles a day and done ten miles on Sunday.

"She was hoping to raise £100 and has already raised £870 which is a great amount, she is now hoping to reach £1,000."
