Hemel Hempstead MP celebrates Armed Forces Week
Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community
The MP for Hemel Hempstead attended Dacorum Borough Council s flag raising ceremony to celebrate Armed Forces Week.
Sir Mike Penning, who joined the army as a boy soldier and served in the Grenadier Guards, joined the Mayor of Dacorum Cllr Stewart Riddick and Major Bob Fisher President of the Hemel Hempstead branch of the Royal British Legion at the flag raising ceremony at The Forum in Marlowes.
Gagan Mohindra MP for South West Hertfordshire, Claire Hamilton Chief Executive of Dacorum Borough Council also attended the ceremony.
Armed Forces Day (June 26) is an opportunity for Dacorum Borough Council and its residents to show gratitude and appreciation for the men and women who make up the armed forces community, from current serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
Sir Mike said: “Sadly, this is the second year that we have been unable to hold an event in Gadebridge Park. However, it is as important as ever that show our appreciation for the work of the men and women who serve in our armed forces.
“11 November is the time to pay our respects to those who have given their lives, but 26 June is for us to pay tribute to the armed forces, veterans and their families."
"We have some of the best armed forces in the world, so it is only right that one day a year we come together to celebrate the work they do and be proud of them and the whole military wider family.”
