He said: "This charity does wonderful things for sick children and I wanted to do something to help.

"I will be embarking on this journey on my own without the support of a group or a support driver.

"I'm not a professional or even avid cyclists which i feel makes the challenge even more difficult.

"My training began with some lengthy trips to Bishop Stortford and Central London. I have also done shorter journeys to Dunstable Downs, Ivinghoe Beacon and Hertford.

"I'm estimating to complete it within 10 days, but that is just a guess, as the weather may play a part in how many miles a day I can do.

"This is also a personal challenge for myself and one that I will complete. It is to show myself that with a little bit of commitment we as humans can achieve anything and I hope that this may inspire others to achieve their goals."

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity supports the hospital and its patients by funding four key areas rebuilding and refurbishment, support for children and families, research into children's health and life-saving medical equipment.
