A group of Beavers in Hemel Hempstead are walking a virtual marathon to raise money for Guide Dogs.

Seven members of 2nd Hemel Hempstead Beavers are walking the virtual marathon as part of their virtual scouting and are hoping to raise £1,000 for the charity that breeds and trains guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility.

They started walking on Friday, May 1, and are hoping to do 50,000 steps between them.

Tyla Stevens, runs the 2nd Hemel Hempstead Beavers in Grove Hill, and will be walking with the Beavers.

She said: "I asked the Beavers what they wanted to to do in lockdown and they said they wanted to raise money for charity, which I thought was really sweet of them.

"They choose Guide Dogs, who are doing a virtual walk.

"We will meet virtually, every evening for a week and we will do Beaver activities while we walk.

"We will count the steps each time and we are hoping to do a total of 50,000 steps which I believe is the equivalent to walking a marathon.

"We have done three days so far of our marathon walk and between us the beavers have walked an amazing 40,000 steps.

"We have been doing this via zoom and we have walked through a virtual jungle, walked underwater and across a beach on Thailand. Today (Monday) we will be walking in space."
