Free 'My Story' creative writing sessions will be taking place online thanks to Hertfordshire Library Service
The My Story workshops draw on the Herts Memories archive and will be taking place on Zoom
Following on from their successful bid to Arts Council National Lottery Projects Grants, Hertfordshire Library Service will be running a series of free creative writing sessions online over the next three months.
As part of the project, artists John Prebble and Alex McIntyre will be hosting a duo of online workshops exploring storytelling, and encouraging participants to tell their own story through speaking and listening, writing and visual arts activities.
These workshops will draw on the Herts Memories archive for inspiration and generate ideas by considering objects found in homes combined with visual arts exercises to help creativity flourish.
Earlier this year, Hertfordshire was awarded £49,999 by Arts Council England (ACE) thanks to a successful bid by Hertfordshire Library Service to Arts Council National Lottery Project Grants.
The grant will be used to build on the successful ACE backed project My Story, which launched in 2019 and took true stories from Hertfordshire residents and interpreted them in art forms for the whole community to enjoy.
Michele Murphy, Head of Libraries at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “Sharing stories is such a fundamental part of what we do in libraries, and the “My Story” project will play an important part in reconnecting people and communities, as well as providing an opportunity to express and celebrate our experiences through a range of different art forms.
"We are looking forward to working with a host of creative partners throughout the project, and these creative writing workshops will get us off to a flying start!"
The My Story workshops are free to attend and will be taking place on Zoom throughout April, May and June.
