Held at the University of Hertfordshire, and welcoming an audience of 450 nominees, nominators and guests, this year’s event was hosted for the first time by voice of radio, Laura Alexandra.

Back in October, the independent judging panel had worked their way through 130 nominations for schools, clubs and individuals who make a significant contribution to supporting sport in Hertfordshire.

Dacorum’s big winners on the night were: Abigail Lamb (Reddings Primary School) - Sporting Futures Training Apprentice of the Year; Steve Elms (Berkhamsted Lawn Tennis and Squash Rackets Club) - Over-21 Volunteer of the Year Award; Dacorum & Tring Athletics Club - Community Club of the Year; and Kath Worrell, who received a posthumous award after a lifetime dedicated to netball in the region.

Other stars of the borough who made it into the top-three of their respective categories were Divine Saviour Roman Catholic Primary School, Abbots Langley - Primary School of the Year; Katrina Caraska (Hemel Hempstead Town Youth Football Club) - U21 Volunteer of the Year; Andy Jackson (Dacorum and Tring Athletics Club) - Male Community Coach of the Year; Bob Brown (Hemel Stags) - Service to Sport Award.

Organised by the Herts Sports Partnership to acknowledge and celebrate the work of the county’s fantastic sporting volunteers, director John O’Callaghan was delighted with the evening.

He said: “The event was a resounding success. The efforts of our county’s volunteers is an inspiration to everyone.

“Each year the awards illuminates new examples of dedication to sport and community spirit, and this year is no exception.”
