Berkhamsted car park now open for business

A multi-storey car park in Berkhamsted is now open providing much enhanced parking facilities for visitors, local businesses and rail commuters.

Dacorum Borough Council’s multi-storey car park in Lower Kings Road, is strategically located between Berkhamsted High Street and the train station and offers 297 well-laid-out parking bays and offers flexibility on how long visitors can park.

One of the most interesting features of the multi-story car park is the installation of a ‘living wall’. Part of the façade is covered with plants and foliage, creating a stunning visual welcome for users.

The living wall helps to improve the quality of air and creates a habitat that encourages biodiversity. Additional benefits include noise reduction and it helps to improve a sense of well-being.

The multi-storey car park has 297 parking bays and six electric charge points.

The eight decks are served by two stairwells (lift located in northern stairwell), the building has 24 hr CCTV, intruder alarm, access control to barriers, doors and a roller shutter ensuring the safety of its visitors. And the clean LED lighting throughout helps to cut down on energy consumption and light pollution.

Cllr Andrew Williams, leader of the council said “The opening of the MSCP is a great milestone in the transformation of this key project.

“A car park is more than just a space to park your car and the living wall is an innovative way to make our public spaces more appealing, whilst at the same time having a beneficial effect on the environment.”

In addition, Bournside a surface car park adjacent to the multi-storey car park has been landscaped to offer an additional 14 disabled bays and five motorcycle bays offering free parking up to 4 hours, there are also 20 bicycle racks.

Both car parks have been awarded the Park Mark status.

The Safer Parking Scheme is a national standard for UK car parks that have low crime and measures in place to ensure the safety of people and vehicles.
