Malcolm Coughtrey, aged 71, of Knightsbridge Way, Adeyfield, was convicted on September 9 of two indecent assaults, attempted buggery, 10 charges of indecent assault of a male, two counts of buggery, possession of indecent images and possession of extreme pornography.

His name will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life and he has been issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Coughtrey had been arrested at his home on January 13, 2014, after one of his adult victims bravely came forward.

Police discovered indecent images on his computer following his arrest.

Coughtrey was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday (October 15).

Det Con Paula Mowbray, who investigated the case, said: “This man targeted and groomed his victims, some of whom were vulnerable, and I am sure they will never be free from the physical and emotional effects of his depraved crimes. The sentenced passed to Mr Coughtrey fully reflects the severity of what he has done and I hope this may bring some comfort to those he inflicted these crimes upon.

“I hope this also encourages anyone who has been a victim of these types of crimes, even if they occurred some years ago, to have the courage to report it and have the confidence that the police will investigate these allegations and bring offenders to justice.”
