Vox Pop: Will The Tour of Britain help put Hemel on the map?

Reporter Victoria Bull asked people in Hemel Hempstead town centre what they think about the Tour of Britain, which is passing through the town today.

Mick Williams, visiting family in Hemel Hempstead:

‘It’s a good thing for the community, but everyone is hypocritical when it comes to cycling because they complain about them on the roads every day.’

Julia Wood, town centre:

‘It’s very good news for the town. The shops have dwindled so this will get people coming in. There’s not a lot people can get involved in here so the Tour will be a nice day for all the family.’

Derek Peverill, Volunteer Centre Dacorum:

‘I will be watching it. It’s great that it’s coming here – cycling is a big thing after we had the Tour de France in the UK, so it has come at a good time for us.’

Michael Pansa, works in Hemel Hempstead:

‘This will be a good thing to raise people’s awareness of Hemel Hempstead. We are on the outskirts of London so usually everything is focused there.’

Gillian Fox, Highfield:

‘I’m not really into cycling but hopefully this will put us on the map for a positive reason, especially with all the publicity calling Hemel Hempstead an ugly town. Hopefully more people will come here.’
