Elite, the online space simulator from Frontier Developments, will be released on Microsoft’s console this year, Xbox head Phil Spencer announced at the 2015 Game Developers Conference this week.

It is a significant announcement as it marks the game’s console debut. Frontier launched the Windows PC version in December and will also coming to Mac this year.

The game will include all updates since the PC release so Xbox One gamer will not be missing out on any content and has been described as “the complete and authentic Elite: Dangerous experience,” by David Braben, founder and CEO of Frontier Developments, in a post on the game’s forums.

“It will not be ‘dumbed down’. We’ll be working with an all-new audience, but that doesn’t mean a change in direction for the game, and nor does it mean slowing development on the PC version.”

Braben added that PC, Mac and Xbox One players “will all share the same overarching narrative and galaxy state.”

The games huge potential player base is good news for Microsoft, especially in the wake of Sony’s announcement that its rival console, PlayStation 4 has sold more than 20.2 million units. It makes the PS4 the most successful of the eighth generation video game systems.
