Brasserie Blanc, a restaurant in Berkhamsted owned by celebrity chef Raymond Blanc, held its first Le Bebe Breakfast Club on Tuesday morning.

The breakfast club was set up following an article on this website about the decision of The Rex cinema, also in the town, to cancel the baby matinees due to what manager James Hannaway described as ‘whingeing, bitching, snitching and the law.’

General manager Tom Palfreeman at Brasserie Blanc said he hopes the breakfast club will become a weekly event.

Mr Palfreeman said: “I decided to start this breakfast club for the babies that can’t go to the Rex cinema anymore.

“It is also designed as a meeting point for mothers and babies who want a meeting point on Tuesday mornings.”

The restaurant features a soft play area and ball pit in the conservatory for children to play in while parents can enjoy a cooked breakfast and unlimited tea and coffee for £10.

The restaurant is altered for the breakfast club, providing a ‘Buggy Park’ for the push chairs, bins and changing area.

Mr Palfreeman said: “I felt there was a gap in the market so I decided to set this up.

“The first breakfast club was a great success and the soft play area was quickly rearranged by the excitable kids, and was well used!

“We look forward to welcoming other mummies and babies in the coming weeks!”

On the Rex’s decision to ban babies Mr Palfreeman said: “I can understand why they did it.

“If they don’t want babies there that is their choice.”
