MP’s absolutely potty about government grant to help fix roads

The Gazette reported earlier this week that Herts County Council’s bid for of a £168million national pothole repair fund from the government was successful.

This means the county will be given £2.2million to tackle the county’s craters, but the job is estimated to cost around £8.5million in total.

Despite this, Mr Penning has welcomed the announcement, saying: “This is great news for drivers and cyclists in Dacorum.

“Over £2 million of new funding will go a long way to ridding our roads of potholes.

“Investing in Britain’s roads and infrastructure is a key part of the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan to secure a better future for Britain – and this is just a part of that.”

In total £5.8 million of additional funding for the county has been announced for this year, on top of the annual roads maintenance budget.

More than three million potholes will be filled in across England with funding from the central fund, which was first announced in this year’s Budget and forms part of more than £24 billion which will be spent on England’s roads between 2010 and 2021.
