MP carves out a new role for himself

Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning judged a pumpkin carving competition for residents at homeless people's centre The Elms, in Hemel.

The activity was organised by The Elms manager, Sean Fitzgerald.

Run by the charity DENS Action Against Homelessness in partnership with Dacorum Borough Council, the 41-bed temporary accommodation unit for single homeless people was purpose-built last year and opened by the Duchess of Gloucester. It relies on support from the local community.
