Three Hemel Hempstead men are off on a road trip adventure in July when they take part in the Monte-Carlo Or Bust Banger Rally.
Calling themselves The Saxon Wasps, the trio consists of father and son Keith and Paul Carrington and friend Richard Percy– and they certainly don’t lack driving experience between them.
Team leader Paul, aged 48 is a tanker driver, Keith, aged 70, is a retired tanker driver who spent seven years driving trucks between London and the Middle East, and Richard, aged 48, is a mechanic who drives a recovery vehicle.
The rally will see them drive more than 950 miles in three days in a 2002 Nissan Almeira, in a bid to raise £5,000 towards a new hydrotherapy pool for The Woodfield School.
Having bought the car for £250 – well within the competition’s £300 limit – the team is now looking for local companies to sponsor them.
Firms wishing to help their effort will be able to sponsor a sticker on the vehicle.
Paul’s employer, GrEnergy, has already made a generous £1,750 donation.
Monte Carlo Or Bust is not a race, teams have to solve daily challenges, both on and off the road, competing for a variety of prizes and regrouping each evening at the Rally Rendezvous.
The Saxon Wasps will be setting off from the school at 9am on July 16.
During their trip, they will be writing a daily blog about their Facebook page.
