After the walk was opened by deputy mayor David Collins, 35 walkers tackled the mile-long route up and down the high street in aid of the Chilterns MS Centre.

The Walk the MS Mile sponsored walks, of which there were five this year, have helped raise awareness and funds for the centre, which supports people in the local community with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Local resident Liz Ayling, who regularly has treatment at the centre to help with her MS symptoms, said: “Thanks goes to the support of all my friends, family and the people of Berkhamsted for getting behind me.

“The centre is such an amazing place to go, I’m proud to be raising awareness for them.”

The walk was sponsored by Metro Bank, Marks & Spencer provided bananas and water and local estate agent Castles put boards up advertising the walk. The ladies of Berkhamsted Inner Wheel provided marshals on the day.
