A woman from Gadebridge is looking for 39 new friends - to help her celebrate her 40th birthday in style.

Michelle Pett is taking on 40 challenges for charity and need the new friends to join her in challenge one, participating in The Hospice of St Francis’ Midnight Glow Walk on Saturday, June 27.

She said: “What better way to celebrate turning 40 than to cross off 40 things I’ve always wanted to do and, through my experiences, raise money for my local Hospice.”

Michelle celebrates her milestone birthday on July 1, three days after the Midnight Walk.

She added: “A few of my friends have said they’ll join me on June 27 but, as I love meeting new people, I thought it would make the walk more special and a right giggle to walk with a massive crowd!

“My daughter Ellie is helping me out by making luminous neon loom bands which we’re going to give to all those who pledge to join ‘Michelle’s 40 for 40’!

“I know from my time as a Heart Radio Angel that The Hospice of St Francis always delivers brilliant, feel-good, events. It’s such a wonderful charity which helps many families going through tough time in their lives, including a friend and neighbour of mine, that I want to give something back.”

More than 800 walkers are expected at this year’s Midnight Glow Walk, taking place from 9pm, and following a new five or 10-mile route around the streets of Hemel Hempstead taking in Nash Mills, Chaulden, Old Town and Apsley.

Michelle said: “As part of my 40 for 40, I’ve already eaten an oyster (disgusting!), climbed Ashridge Monument (hard!), watched the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s and built some flat pack furniture but have many others to complete including giving blood, pulling a pint in 40 Hemel pubs and taking a selfie with Ant and Dec!

“As well as the Midnight Walk, I’m also doing four other hospice events: the Mud Pack Challenge in October, Santa Dash and a skydive, which will be a huge accomplishment as I’m terrified of heights.

I’m also planning to volunteer for the charity. In total, I’m determined to raise at least £1,000 but am hoping if lots of local people join me on the Midnight Walk, we can smash that target!”

Mum of three and grandmother of three, Michelle is recruiting people to walk in her team ‘Michelle’s 40 for 40’ via her Facebook page:

You can register directly at www.stfrancis.org.uk/midnightwalk with the same team name. Registration costs just £20 which includes a free Glow for it T-shirt. Walkers are asked to raise what they can to support the work of the hospice.
