Students on the Musical Theatre course at Tring Park School will be performing their own version of the much loved musical that took Broadway by storm in 1966, before opening in the West End in 1968 starring Judi Dench in the lead role of night club singer Sally Bowles.

Based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the stage at the Markova Theatre at the school will be transformed into the seedy Kit Kat Klub in 1930s Berlin.

Cabaret tells the story of Sally Bowles, a singer in the club, who has an encounter with Cliff Bradshaw, a US author who is working on a novel in the city. When Sally is fired by the club’s owner, who also happens to be her jealous boyfriend, she moves in with Cliff and the two fall in love.

But life takes a dramatic change as Nazis begin to take control of the German government.

The story line is set to a memorable sound track of songs including Cabaret, Mein Herr, Maybe This Time, Money and Willkommen, which will be performed by the Tring Park students accompanied by a live band.

The Cabaret run begins on Saturday (February 6) with seven performances throughout the week, with the final one on Friday February 12. This includes a special fund raising performance with pre-theatre supper and interval drinks at 7.30pm on Wednesday February 10 in aid of Tring Park building fund.

The other performances are as follows: 2pm on Saturday; 4pm and 7.30pm on Sunday; 7.30pm on Monday and Tuesday; 7.30pm on Thursday February 11; and 2pm on Friday February 12.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01442 824255, by email from [email protected] or online at www.tringpark.com/whats-on and cost £18, concessions £15. Tickets for the special fund raising performance with supper cost £50.
