Man suffers fractured jaw after argument on M1 hard shoulder

A man suffered a fractured jaw and cheek bone when two motorists were involved in an argument on the hard shoulder of the M1 last weekend.

Police are investigating the incident which took place near Junction 8 at Hemel Hempstead, at 11.50am on Saturday, April 25.

A man in his 30s was driving a silver Matiz joining the road at Junction 8 when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle, believed to be either a silver old-style Vauxhall Astra or Corsa.

Both parties stopped their vehicles on the hard shoulder where there was an argument. The man in his 30s was then assaulted by the other driver. He sustained a fractured jaw and cheek bone. The other driver then drove away.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has further information.

Detective Constable Jane Swift said: “This is an unusual incident to have happened and has unfortunately left a man with a nasty injury.

“I would like to identify the other driver involved as a matter of urgency and would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or the events prior to it, to contact me as soon as possible.”
