Man arrested after car flips over crash barrier in horror collision near Hemel Hempstead

A man who ran away from a mangled car after a horror M1 crash has been arrested for driving offences.

The car, which crashed with a heavy goods vehicle on the M1 near Hemel, flipped several times before going over the crash barrier onto the adjacent A414.

Emergency services were called at about 12.35am on Wednesday to reports of a collision between Junction 7 for St Albans and Junction 8 for Hemel Hempstead on the northbound stretch of the M1.

Partial road closures were in force while the incident was dealt with, the vehicle recovered and debris cleared from the carriageway.

> A 20 year old man from Luton has been arrested on suspicion of taking without consent and driving without insurance. He has been released under further investigation.
