Make a dash to join festive fundraiser

CHRISTMAS came early for one youngster when Hemel Hempstead’s Snow Centre helped launch a fundraising santa dash.

One year old Caitlin donned a tiny santa suit and joined mum Jo Neale, a community fundraiser with the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home and her colleague Clair Evans in matching outfits.

Charity mascot Rennie Bear was also there to kick off registration for the hospice’s third annual sponsored dash.

The good cause is hosting two festive-themed runs this year, at the Lowndes Park in Chesham on Sunday, November 28 and The Rye Park in High Wycombe on Saturday, December 11.

Entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for children, or £25 for a family ticket, which covers two adults and up to three children aged 15 and under.

The price includes the provision of santa suits.

All proceeds from the events will go towards the Tring-based hospice’s nursing service, which gives terminally ill patients in the Chilterns the choice to be cared for at home.

During the 12 days of Christmas last year, the charity’s adult and children’s nursing teams provided more than 887 hours of care to patients and 33 hours of bereavement support to families.

It costs around £30 an hour for nursing care, so if all the dash participants each raised this in sponsorship it would make a huge difference to the families that need support.
