Tring Park Cricket Club president Peter Haynes and his wife Ann hosted the get-together at the club, which culminated with fireworks.

The celebration lunch came a week after the town’s popular Festival of Fire on November 8 which, despite the poor weather, many have described as the best ever fireworks event in Tring.

Peter himself was a member of the original firing team that lit the fuses and he was joined at the anniversary lunch by others who have taken over that responsibility down the years including Roger Hopkins, Dave Smith and Matt Partner.

While electronic firing has now replaced the more hazardous process of lighting the fuses, Peter reminded guests at the lunch that one thing has not changed - the fireworks are still about community and putting on a great show.

Money raised from the event will be spent on maintaining the clubhouse and grounds, off London Road, which are used for a variety of sports including Hatch End Hawks Lacrosse, which has recently relocated.
