A pair of long-time Berkhamsted dwellers are helping reclaim the Rectory Lane Cemetery from nature.

Alan and Ann Mosley discovered the cemetery just last year.

They became so interested that they signed up to the Rectory Lane Cemetery Project.

Their greatest find has been the seat of remembrance erected by Lucy Cooper, wife of Sir Richard Mildmay Foot.

Mr Foot was a brigadier general and had a distinguished military career and was involved in the Cooper agrichemical business.

He was the son of Rev Cunningham Noel Foot. His married Lucy – daughter of Sir Richard Powell Cooper, 1st Bt, and Elizabeth Anne Ashmall – on March 30, 1902. Mr Foot died on October 16, 1933.

He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant and gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the service of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (DSO).

He was invested as a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) and was also invested as a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG).
