Shannel Gomm, of Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead, decided to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment .

Mum Emma Juden, 30, said the haircut was even more poignant after losing her auntie, Shirley Hayward, to cancer last year at the age of 59.

She said: “What was supposed to just be a hair cut
has turned into a beautiful act of kindness.

“Losing auntie Shirley was very difficult for everyone involved, so Shannel doing this brought a massive lump to my throat.”

The youngster, who attends Broadfield Primary School, had a total of 13 inches chopped off at Lavish Hair and Beauty in Lawn Lane – and the ponytail weighed 61g in total.

But the stylist who cut Shannel’s hair free of charge was in fact Shirley’s daughter Dawn, which made the moment more special.

Emma said: “It was such a lovely feeling knowing another child would gain out of her Shannel’s new hair do. I would like to thank the Hemel community for supporting her.”
