In the central display area of the Marlowes Shopping Centre from 11am to 4pm, the Lions will allow shoppers to experience having limited vision while carrying out everyday tasks such as making a sandwich, a cup of tea or walking around the mall.

Club chairman Gren Derrick said: “The event gives us an opportunity to raise awareness of just how important sight is to us, and how easily we take it for granted.”

The, event, run in conjunction with the Social Centre for the Blind in Hemel Hempstead, will also feature display of specialist equipment and information from other support agencies for the blind.

Other Lions clubs from nearby will also be invited to take part.

The Lions’ bookshop in the Marlowes will also be offering diabetic screenings the following Saturday, October 11.

The shop is also in desperate need of donations of paperback books, so bring along any unwanted reads so that they can be sold on to help fund the Lions’ friendly missions.
