The charity houses dogs before they find their fur-ever homes and has so far rehomed over 18,000 animals since being founded in 1963.

Unfortunately since moving to its premises in Chivery, near Tring in 2010, the current 25 kennels often fill up quickly, especially around March when households realise they can’t keep a pet they’ve got at Christmas time.

Thanks to the warmer weather and no snow over the festive season, there has been no paws on the building work and the rescue centre is looking to open its 40 new kennels in the summer.

A spokeswoman from the charity said: “We’re really excited for the new kennels to be built.

“2015 is going to be a major year for us and we’re looking forward to it.”
