Dog expert Hanne Grice promises to reveal all during her workshop this Saturday (July 11) called An Introduction to Dog Body Language.

The introductory workshop will show how dogs communicate through body language, explain what happens when communication breaks down, bust common myths around dog behaviour and communication and provide an understanding of the early warning signs of stress.

Dog training and behaviour specialist Hanne said: “Dogs communicate all the time through a combination of visual, verbal and olfactory cues and signals. Like humans, much of dogs’ communication is sent through their body language, particularly facial expressions and body posture.

“Yet in the language of ‘dog’, there re no language barriers; dogs from different countries and different breeds will typically recognise the visual and vocal signals of another dog when it is feeling upset, anxious, fearful, tired, disinterested, frustrated, excited, happy and playful.”

The workshop is being held at the Nora Grace Hall (previously known as the Memorial hall and Red Cross Hall) in Faversham Close, Tring from 10.30am to 1pm.

For those wanting to get active with their pooches, Great Britain husky racing champion Emma Cowell will be hosting An Introduction to Canine Exercise workshop.

This hands-on workshop will present the basic physical, mental and emotional principles needed to help keep your dog fit and includes exercises to develop a strong core stability and create balance and posture - factors that are so important for correct movement.

Emma said: “This is a real opportunity for pet owners to learn how to assess their dog’s fitness and behaviour levels, consider the climate and terrain they are exercising in and on, as well as the dog’s hydration levels, nutrition, plus a whole lot more. Basically, think of this as Pilates for dogs!”

The workshop is being held on Saturday, July 18 at the Nora Grace Hall from 9am to midday. Tickets cost £25 for those wanting to attend with their dogs (one handler and one dog). Dogs must be comfortable with other dogs in an enclosed place. Spectator tickets cost £20. Prices include handouts, tea, coffee and biscuits.
