Lawyers sought to support Will Aid

Will Aid, the UK’s top charity will campaign, is calling for solicitors who want to give something back to their community to sign up to November’s campaign. They would enable local people get the protection of a proper will and help charity at the same time.

Solicitors who take part report that Will Aid offers them a unique opportunity to put something back into their own community.

They are helping local people look after their loved ones and at the same time raising vital funds to help people in desperate need access the things most of us take for granted, like basic health care and clean water.

During the month of November participating solicitors write basic wills for their Will Aid clients without charging their usual fee. Instead, clients are invited to make a donation to the Will Aid charities. The suggested minimum donation is £90 for a single basic Will, £135 for a pair of mirror Wills and £40 for a codicil.

Last year’s campaign encouraged around 27,000 people to make a proper Will and raised £2.2 million for the Will Aid charities, beating the previous best of £1.5 million achieved in the previous year’s campaign.

Campaign manager Shirley Marsland said: “The Will Aid charities are delighted at the fantastic results of last year’s campaign. The campaign is very popular with the public and demand continues to rise year on year.

“We are expecting another massive response in the autumn and urgently need more solicitors to sign up. Nobody knows better than a solicitor the problems that can be caused for the family when somebody dies without a valid will. This is a great chance to ensure that local people get the protection of a properly drafted will.

“Our solicitors also report that the Will Aid campaign is a boost to business. It brings them valuable new clients who return when they have further legal needs and who recommend their Will Aid solicitor to others. The scheme promotes a real feel-good factor amongst both staff and clients who really appreciate the solicitor’s generous gift of time and professional expertise.”

“The scheme couldn’t be easier to operate and Will Aid solicitors are free to decide how many wills they write under the scheme.”
