Well Herts County Council are happy to reveal the answer, after this year saw the launch of overnight roadside work.

Highways contractor Ringway has been working from 7pm-7am to maintain verges on fast roads, clean signs and bollards, empty gullies and repair street lights when residents are still tucked up in bed.

In previous seasons the grass verges on fast roads were cut during the day, which could lead to delays for some road users. By changing the works to night-time and coordinating the maintenance jobs, bosses hope to keep disruption on roads to a minimum.

Councillor Terry Douris, cabinet member for highways, said: “We are continually reviewing and improving our highways service with our residents in mind. By grass cutting at night and completing other maintenance work at the same time, we are reducing the disruption on our overall road network.

“Because the work is being carried out at night you won’t see the team out on the road, but you will however notice shorter grass and other maintenance works.”
