Last chance to surrender illegal guns under firearms amnesty which ends today

The chance for people to hand in illegal firearms without fear of prosecution ends today.

It is the last day of the county-wide firearms amnesty, which has been running since Monday, November 10 and has seen many more weapons surrendered than initially anticipated by officers.

So far more than 183 guns including, 14 rifles, 19 air pistols and 57 imitation weapons and two crossbows have been given up.

More than 4,000 rounds of ammunition have also been handed in and a total of six antique guns surrendered.

Of the 185 total weapons surrendered, 63 are viable firearms that are now in the safe hands of the police for disposal.

Until midnight, firearms can be dropped off at Watford, Hatfield, Hoddesdon or Stevenage police stations or a specially trained officer can collect weapons. To arrange this contact Herts Police on 101.
